Located on Savannah’s historic Telfair Square, the new courthouse annex for the Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of Georgia provides 37,500 square feet of courtroom, office, and public interface space. The three-story building serves multiple federal functions, housing the Court Clerk, Office of Probation, and U.S. Marshal Service, while honoring the city’s architectural heritage and civic identity.
Designed to complement the existing Tomochichi Federal Courthouse, the annex balances contemporary expression with historic sensitivity. Its symmetrical forms, durable materials, and monumentally scaled lobby evoke the enduring legacy of American courts, while abundant natural light and visual openness reflect modern values of transparency, equity, and civic responsibility. As a design-build project in a National Historic Landmark District, the annex carefully weaves new federal infrastructure into the fabric of Savannah’s past.
