The University of Houston College of Medicine’s new 130,000 SF facility is designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and wellness. Situated on a 43-acre site, the building integrates large-format teaching spaces, small group meeting rooms, administrative suites, and specialized areas such as a simulation center and anatomy suite. Thoughtfully designed social and study spaces enhance student engagement and support a dynamic learning environment.
Promoting physical health and well-being is central to the design, influencing everything from circulation to infrastructure. The Active Learning Classroom, located on the first level, serves as both a teaching space and a community event hub, while the building’s central “heart” physically and visually connects students, faculty, and visitors. A flexible Wellness Studio encourages student wellness, and a combination of passive and active design strategies reduces energy demand and supports sustainability, aligning with the college’s mission to advance healthcare education and community engagement.
